This poll is a little confusing. The title, "Which model rules iboats?", seems to ask for an opinion about overall boat ownership on iboats. The poll itself is more clear, it says, "What model do you have?" I wasn't going to vote until I saw the question on the poll.

I voted in the SS category, even though mine is technically titled an offshore. The monkey told me I should be in this classification and I have to agree. The walk thru windshield cinched it.

Now that I'm officially an SS (monkey has already ruled from the bench) I agree with HA. We have the numbers.

It used to be Holiday's hands down. But a lot of SSs (including mine) have popped up.

Supersport..Love it..if I had a CC I think I'd still change it over to a supersport
style set-up.....been looking at a large CC Starcraft near the tracks at Little Falls, MN...The owner left it uncovered all last summer and all this winter...
no for sale signs on it... but at this rate...future boat project??? for
someone??? I have a 16ft 1971 Starcraft Supersport that I have been working on and if I pick up one more boat...Wife warned me I'd be looking for a new place to stay...:eek:maybe after I get the lower level of our house finished off..she will be more agreeable to extra projects:p
Also have 2 Alumacraft 17ft canoes, 2 Old-town Otter Kayaks and one
Aquaterra Sea Lion Sea Kayak...I get teased about my "fleet"

Re: Which model rules iboats?

I would guess that they made and sold far more SS models than any other, at least in the aluminum hulls. They made various length SS models.
Myself, I now own the one 1974 16' SS, and my 1967 18' Starchief, and one Capri 17 which is a glass trihull.

I've seen the SS in 16', 19', and 22' models over the years. I can think of about a dozen guys still running them, most are the later 19' and 22' models. I was out on a buddies 22' SS today. I think the Starchief and other cabin models will be more area specific, they seem to be more common in the larger freshwater lake areas and rivers. The SS was always the fisherman's choice as well as a good family boat for fishing and skiing. I'm sure sale price also played a bit part in the production numbers as well, I'd guess that a Starchief was more than likely a good step above the SS and other open models cost wise, just as the Chieftain was pricier than the Starchief. (I only wish they made a Chieftain in an outboard model).

Re: Which model rules iboats?

I have to agree with the SS boats being the most common, I've got one, but also have a Starchief, a smaller 14' Seafarer, a 63 Jupiter, and a 16' SS.
The Jupiter was first, then the Starchief, then the SS, the 14 footer came a part of a trade and stayed a few years ago.
I seem to see mostly the SS models or Holiday or Jupiter models most, other than the 12 thru 16' open aluminum boats that are all over. They made more of them than anything else going by the number of them out on the water.
It seems when you see an older aluminum boat, it's about an 90% chance that its a Starcraft of some sort, at least in this area.
