which motor to buy

I have a 16' all welded aluminum duck boat(tracker), and am looking to buy a new motor. This boat weighs about 600 lbs, and is pretty much a flat bottom boat but a 1978 evinrude 15 hp in very good condition will move it no more than 12 mph with me, one more person and lab retriever. Will a 25 hp outboard get me 20 mph? The transom is 20", so it has to be a long shaft motor, and the recommended maximum size motor is 30 hp. Should I even think about a two stroke, or just go with the 4 stroke. I would have liked to keep a new motor in my cellar, but the weight is an issue in handling it. I'm up in Connecticut duck hunting and need to store the motor during the late winter. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Tohatsu has a 2-stk 25 that weighs 106 lbs. You might not get 20, but you would at least get 18.

Nothing wrong with a 2 stroke.<br />A 25 or 30 will make a big improvement over a 15.

the question is not what kind of outboard too buy...cause there is only one real outboard.....the question is...what size mercury do i want?

If you are not on a plane at present, 25 or 30 hp should put you up there. If you are already planing, expect 16 plus mph.Batavier
