What octane is best to run in a 1993 90HP Johnson? Would 93 octane improve its performance or hurt the engine. I know in other two cycle engines, such as dirt bikes, the higher octance enhances performance.

Thanks.

Do a search on the word "Octane"...you'll have enough reading/opinions to last you a while.

I believe the general concensus is that 87 octane is fine and that the higher octane fuels really don't do anything for you in an outboard.

Cheers.

. . . . .

(Little marks from people touching this with a 10 ft pole)

Just kidding Mr. Ninja, 87 is fine for that motor as long as it's stock, as produced. Boat motors don't have the luxury of a transmission to keep them in a "friendly" rpm band at all times like land vehicles. Just set it up at 5800 with an average load and you'll be fine.

Also good oil and Champion plugs will keep it running a very long time.

Here in sweden our only choice is 95,96 and 98 unleaded. Howcome the low octane rates in your country/ies ?
