Re: Which one to sell, which one to keep?

I am partial to outboards and I think the Starcraft might get you on the water faster. I don't think either of them is going to have much of a resale value. I do prefer bowriders though and I think the Welcraft is one, yes?

Yes, the Wellcraft is a bow rider. Why do you think the Starcraft would be a quicker path to enjoyment?
It does have what appears to be a deeper V hull, which might handle the bay better.

I'm sort of thinking the opposite, as the Wellcraft has a new(allegedly) floor, and recent engine work. I have a receipt for the head and head work, and various other incidentals. Of course, an sterndrive appears to require more maintenance and repair.

The Starcraft appears to have a soft spot directly under the passenger seat mount, it moves back and forth. It might have a soft spot in the rear corner as well.

Either way, both will require some good time put in them going over everything.

Whichever one i end up keeping, I am happy, I just want to enjoy the water again, it's been way too long.

I didn't fully pay attention.....if the Welcraft is closer to ready to go then that's prolly your best bet. If they were both just old boats that had been laid up for a while....with the outboard if you could get it started you could pretty much go hit the water and see if it goes. With the I/O there are some other things you'd want to check out first.

I would personally sell both of them as is and go buy a center console or something that doesnt require much work. I love center console-great for every activity on water .And with personal experience fixer uppers become real pains. Once u fix one problem u get another but that might be all my boats. Any way best to you hope to see you on water soon.

So which has the deeper vee bottom in the back? IMO, if I had no boat the Starcraft would be okay, But of the two, the Wellcraft is a deeper design, (more freeboard) with a more modern center steering design, and a bit more weight at a lower spot in the back, meaning it would ride a bit more bow high most times, even with the bowrider, and be a dryer, and more stable ride, in rough water, as in Bays. Also, a bowrider frees up a lot more space in an I/O.

The Starcraft has more of an older forward steering, deeper center weighted design, that will ride deeper, and be wetter, when the going gets rough.

I think the best way to describe it is, at below planing speeds, the Wellcraft will ride on top of the water, and the Starcraft will ride in the water.

Welp, picked up a CHEAP 84' Wellcraft Nova 23xl, so these other two have to go.

The Nova needs an engine, and some TLC. Any tips on where to pick up a long block, or is it worth it to use a freshly rebuilt vette engine I have sitting around?
