I am boat shopping. I plan to buy myself a fishing boat as a retirement gift.

I am looking at 2 boats, both of them are Crestliners. A 1988 and a 1992. Both are in good condition and priced about the same.

Here's where I"m unsure. the 1988 is powered by a Johnson GT 150. The 1992 is powered by a Yamaha ProV 150. Should this be an issue ? Is one more fuel efficient than the other ? I have had no experience with big outboards. Most of my previous boats were I/O's.

Re: Which one?

Any 150 hp marine motor will use about 15 GPH (gallons per hour)at WOT (wide open throttle)
10% of the rated hp.Wheather pushing a house boat or a runabout.
It would be very hard to measure the difference if any between these motors.
The setup and boat design are more likely to make any difference in actual fuel mileage.
