LOL, I've been doing the same thing. Ever since I put this 115 I6 Merc on my boat I've been picking up motors that either have a bad powerhead or lower unit for cheap and now I have enough parts to put together at least two good motors. My garage is turning into a nightmare.

Add a 1883 Evinrude 40hp to mine

...yeah those old turn of the century Evinrudes really had lasting power and are now becoming collectable ;);)
(...I had to Ken, you left it wide open :D:D)

I vote in favor of Evinrude,...new or old(preferrably the older OMC motors since I am looking for an older Lund boat with an OMC/Evinrude motor).
Do not have it yet,but I'm a lookin!

Add a 1883 Evinrude 40hp to mine !!!! picked it up for $20 at a yard sale.

Hmmmm....1883 he says. That should be worth more than $20.:p

Also, lots of Johnson's...seems like DJ has the market cornered on those as well..

And add another Yamaha to the bunch. The Key West 2020 I just picked up is powered by a 150 two stroke. Go Yammy..;)

1976 Merc 115
1982 Merc 80
1972 Evinrude 100
1990 Johnson 9.9

The Mercs run great an the 115 sounds mean at 5800rpm, but can't beat an OMC v-4 for reliability and even though she's electric shift she's never left me stranded or doubting.

Good poll to remember and keep in mind when you are looking to purchase an outboard with future resale in mind as you upsize!

Years ago a Sears 7.5 hp Gamefisher or Ted Williams model (the green and white one) my right arm still hurts thinking about starting it :(

A 40 hp Evinrude on a Silverline 16 foot Tri Hull open bow.

Then went for many years with just a Minn Kota electric for fishing.

About 5 years ago had a new 5 hp Honda 4 stroke (overly loud and a rough
idler).

2005 30 hp Merc 4 stroke was new in 2007, heavy and underpowered. Swapped it back to the dealer for the present 2007 Merc 4 stroke, quiet and powerful.

Also still own a 2005 Merc 9.9 4 stroke.

Soon to come . . . a late model 200 hp Merc Verado, as soon as I can locate my second boat to hang it off of!

1999 2.5hp Mercury converted to 3.3hp :)

But technically, it's a Nissan/Tohatsu.

Re: Which Outboard Engine Brand do you own?

I currently have:

1950 Johnson 5 (was a TN-26 but now has a TN-28 block; fully restored)
1958 Johnson 7? (a runner, bought as a project)
1971 Evinrude Yachtwin 4 (low hours)

________________________________________________________________

Growing up I had access to dad's motors.
The TN was dad's since about '52. He traded a late 40's Johnson 2? for it.

He also had since new a 1950s Mighty Mite Neptune 1.7 (he gave it to a buddy last year).

My Evinrude 4 was dad's, who inherited from a good friend who passed away in 1985 after using it very little.

Dad had a 1965 Johnson 9? which I remember as a new motor. We used it a lot and I really liked that motor. It never ever gave us a problem. It looked like hell but it ran like a top. He gave it to another hunting buddy.

A 1971 Johnson 25. That one actually moved pretty well on an open 16' Starcraft. It got stolen in '92.

1993 Johnson 30 electric start. Dad's 1st electric start. My brother has it now, along with a newer Starcraft 16' FM160.

A cute little 1967 Johnson 3 horse folding weedless. It was the last year of the integral metal tank. Dad bought it new in '67 and didn't even use it until the mid-1970s. It was a sweet little motor. I learned that it ended up submerged and it never quite ran right after. I'm sure it can be made to run right if approached systematically. Anyway that motor disappeared, but I learned recently that my brother has it.

_________________________________________________________________

I have no qualms against Japanese motors or Mercs. I used to like Chryslers a long, long time ago but I am firmly a Johnnyrude guy. I would consider the last of the new Johnson 9.9s, but next time I want something larger. I'm thinking E-TEC (hey, Bombardier is Canadian, as am I).

I must be planning to go retro because I see 4 pressurized fuel tanks in the basement, plus I just bought a green late 40's/ early 50s Johnson motor stand to go with the 2 mid to late 50s bronze Johnson motor stands I already have, plus 2 reproduction Johnson stands. I also have a ? height 2? Imperial gallon plus two 5-gallon Imperial single line tanks. I guess I had better start making room because it looks like I've caught the bug :D

Attached is a picture from a couple of years ago from my parent's basement. My old 5 is in there before restoration. The other shot is one squeezed off recently in a corner of my basement
