I have a 58 5.5hp Johnson, A 59 5.5hp Evinrude and a 69 6hp Johnson all using different plugs. Is there a correct plug to use in each? And what would be the correct fuel mixure to use in each?

Thanks

Radar.... Use Champion J6C s/plugs, gapped at .030 in all three of those engines.

Radar..... Pertaining to the fuel mixture. There are pros and cons about that. I've encountered bulletins that state that one can use the 50/1 mixture is all of the OMC engines, excepting the older 1957 7.5hp models. But I've also encountered brochure that states that if the engine does not have "all" roller or "needle" type bearings, to stick to their original mixture.

The engines that you have DO NOT have "all" roller or needle bearings, but rather incorporate babbit or bronze type (solid) bearings.

Bottom line... I'd strongly suggest that you use the original mixture which is 24/1 (1 Qt of 50/1 oil to 6 gallons of gas) to avoid any possible lubrication problem. That extra pint of oil doesn't cost that much when compared to the cost of the engine.

I have a '56 Evinrude 5.5 and I've been running it 50:1 for probably 7+ years now, and have put somewhere around 400 hours on it, and not a problem yet.

Check with you local marina, see what they say.
