Which prop do I need?

A friend of mine recomended changing my prop. I have a 1986 60hp Evinrude VRO that currently has a 13x19 prop. We moved to Colorado from California. When we were in California, I just had it in the shops and rebuilt all 3 carbs. Was running great, about 36-38mph in a 1 foot wake. Now put it in the water at about 9500 feet above sea level and it's dead. It will run great in the yard without putting a load on it. Any recommendations and help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to get this going for next year.

Thanks,
Bobby

Unless your boat is light and fast a 19" prop seems too high in the first place.
At that elevation you will need to rejet the carbs they need to be leaner.
Dealers from the area should be able to tell what size. There is probably a chart that tells what size jet for each elevation.
You also will need to decrease prop pitch. You can get an idea what size prop by getteing your rpm and speed with the new jets.I don't recall exactly but I believe there is about 3% power loss for each 1,000 ft. of elevation.Do you have any rpm and speed figures from before the move?If you do a search on the net I'm sure you can find the elevation affects.

+1

Look into engine tuning for the elevation change.
