Re: Which prop is better?
Three props back to back. Propshaft 1.5" below pad.
Yamaha M series, 3 blade, 25p: 63mph@5300rpm. Any attempt to go faster will result in chine walk and any gain in speed is a slow climb after 61mph. (number of passengers does not affect performance)....Good holeshot, smooth acceleration.

Tempest, 3 blade, 25p: 64-66mph@5800 rpm. Any attempt to go faster results in chine walk. Two passengers results in 60mph@5800rpm. Decent holeshot, prop blows out as boat breaks over on plane. Pretty annoying all-round experience...other than it moved the boat faster than the others with one person (driver).

Mercury High Five, 5 blade, 25p: 62-63mph@5700rpm. Good holeshot, prop does not blow out breaking over on plane, but, has the feeling that it "almost" does. Still good acceleration. Any attempt to go faster than 63mph results in chinewalk.

Of these three, the high five 25p compares closely with the yamaha 25p in boat handling, speed, boat "attitude", and acceleration...other than that five blade allows 400 more rpm.

So far, I've found props with more than three blades to gain rpm. I thought the general rule was if you ran a 25p three blade, and switched to a four...drop 2" of pitch? It's sort of been the opposite for me.
