which resin to get?

Hey all, I might be ordering some resin from US Composites in the next few weeks, and I was wondering what resin to get? The 435, 404 or 700? I can clearly see there is a price difference, but i was wondering if the 435 would be suitable for replacing stringers, floor and a transom on an 18 foot boat? Or should i get a stronger resin like the 404 or 700? Also, how much would you guys recommend i get, I figured 10 gallons should be enough to do it all. Or am I way off? Also, what weight mat would be recommended? Thanks for anyone's input.

For an 18ft boat, doing stringers, deck and transom you should probably start with the following...

435 Resin 15gallons
5 qts of Cabosil
1lb of 1/4" chopped strand
1 qt microballons (to make your own fairing filler)
25 yards (1 Roll) of 1.5 oz CSM Chopped Strand Mat)
10 yds of 1708 Biaxial cloth
Fiberglass Roller

Everything else you'll need you can get locally.

Living in St. Louis you might want to see if there is a Local distributor of Fiberglass Resin and Cloth. There is none in Oklahoma, but I imagine in St. Louis there might be and if so, you could/would save a bunch on shipping.

try iboats for your resin and glass...

the numbers are different.....but general laminating resin is plenty strong enough for anything "boat" you want to do

Mrshake, my wife lived in Lebanon for awhile as a kid, still have alot of in laws there.

And I will try searching for places in stl to see if I can find the material closer to home. The place I work at gets it, and I asked where, but I was told they are payin $300 for a 5 gallon bucket, way more than I'll pay.

Maybe you should reccommend to your bosses that they get theirs elsewhere. You could save the boss money and maybe earn some brownie points along the way! Just a thought:)

Kool!!! I've you do find a local STL source for materials, I'll be watching, I think a 2 hour drive to visit the parents might be in order... hahah
