which serial number??

so upon looking at my motor and drive, i have found 3 serial numbers.
the motor is a 1993 mercruiser 4.3 with alpha 1 drive

I was trying to figure out if my motor is the 4.3l , 4.3lx, or 4.3 lx gen model

im still very confused, here are the serial numbers and where i found them

1. F127916 - this was the serial number rivited to the block

2. OF195087 - this was on the outside of the boat on the "ring" the is bolted to the transom that surrounds the out drive. not sure what the part is called.

3. OF170552 - This was on upper unit of the drive. right by where it says Alpha

can anyone tell me how to detirmine which 4.3 model mercruiser i have?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Ayuh,....

#1 is the Motor's serial #...

#2 is the Transom assembley's serial #...

#3 is the Outdrive's serial #...

Ok thanks bond-o. So i was looking at mercruiser manual trying to figure out which type of motor i have and in the manual they all have OF-prefixes...

It's a model 443L100GS, which is a 1994 4.3LX

I believe your Motor's serial # should be OF127916....

Only by a second or two.

Anyway, here is how I found it. With a Merc program and some Trial and error after finding the model number.

Interesting, date of manufacture of my boat is 1993, but it was sold as a 1994, im assuming that is was built late into 1993 and they put a 94 engine into it. and sold it as a 94. So that would mean its not the Gen. 2 balanced shaft.

Look at the listing at the top of this picture. Notice your SN and model number.
Item #13 is a balance shaft

I just went,+ dug out of my checkbook, the serial # tag from my original Mercruiser block,...
I bought it as a Frozen/ Split block core, but fully Dressed, 4.3LX to up-grade the 140hp I started with...

My motor is exactly 13 motors Newer than Your's......

Serial # F127929....

It's been a Sweet motor so far,... 8 years,+ about 800hrs...

Don s. can you tell me the difference between the Gen2 and the Gen+ model that is mentioned in the manual ?

Only thing i found was that gen2 was 93-96 and gen+ was 96-newer

1996 was the Intro of the heart shaped Vortec heads....
