I have a 2005 Merc 50 ELPTO NOT Big Foot and am planning on getting a stainless prop but there are soooo many different manufactures and prices out there from Michigan Wheel, Stiletto, Quicksilver and so on. Can someone shed some light on these and others that you know of and give a recommendation.

Thanks!

I guess I could clarify this a bit for everyone. I am not asking what one for my specific motor, just any info on the the ss prop manufactures in general.

I have had several over the years that were made by Michigan Wheel and have always been satisfied with the quality and performance.

What you're looking for is consistancy. You want to be able to reproduce the same prop a year or two from now. And in the same model prop in different pitches. Some fairly popular manufacturers can't seem to do that for various reasons. Some prop manufacturers are or are on the brink of bankrupctcy. They're cutting costs and that usually means sacrificing quality.

Some companies who sell props and who you would expect to build their own, don't. The downside of that is that in this economy they'll switch manufacturers just to chase pennies per prop. History tells us that when a company starts doing that, quality is usually a casuality.

Michigan.

And the people they distribute through all seem knowledgeable and friendly.

Good company, good props and a good distribution network.

Home run.

Note on Quicksilver: this is Mercury Marine. So, BIG network and big-time support and well-respected.

Michigan Wheel Corp. files bankruptcy, but expects to be bought by investment firm
By The Grand Rapids Press

GRAND RAPIDS -- Marine propeller manufacturer Michigan Wheel Corp. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but expects to be bought by a Southeast Michigan-based investment firm.

The move isn't expected to impact the 63 employees at the company's 1501 Buchanan Ave. SW headquarters, president and CEO Stanley Heide said Wednesday.

When it emerges from bankruptcy reorganization, the 106-year-old company will maintain its current name and operations after being bought by Bloomfield Hills-based The Anderson Group, LLC.

It doesn't mean they are bad, they just might be cutting corners because of their financial troubles.
