I have Goodyear Marathon 225/75/15's on my boat trailer. They are now 5 years old. They ride nice but now I'm concerned about dry rot. Even though there are no visible cracks on the sidewalls I am considering replacing them with Maxxis trailer tires. I think 126.00 each for this size mounted is a pretty good deal.

Go with the Maxxis brand tires. I thinf they are the best way better than Goodyear. LDJ:):)

Was in a quandry for weeks on what trailer tires to replace my 8 year old Goodyear marathons with. The marathons never failed me and I trailer long distances. Searched several different fishing/boating/trailering forums for information and believe me, there are a lot of opinions on trailer tires.
The least amount of negative commentary I found was on Maxxis and that is what I went with. So far, so good though I reserve judgement for a couple years.
By the way, they are not made in China.

Don't know about Trailer Tires, but I had a set of Kumhos on one of my Volvo's and it rode like crap and they wore out pretty quick. Replaced them with Michelin MXV4's and the difference was incredible. Kumhos are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

D's would indeed be overkill for a 2,300# boat.

I agree with Maxxis, it's a top rated trailer tire. Your dealer can help you chose the right tire.

I paid $85.00 apiece for them 1 1/2 years ago. I replaced the Carlisle tires that came new on the EZ Loader trailer. Like I have said. I run COOPER tires on EVERYTHING !!!!

Here's an example of why.

I put 4 new COOPER 10 ply LT265/70/R17 Cooper Discover ATR tires on my pick-up, on 11/12/05. My truck then had 82,175.3/10's miles on it. I presently right now have 191,000.5/10's on my pick-up. That is 108,825.2/10's miles that I have driven on these tires.

EVERY 5,000 miles the tires are ROTATED, and balanced as needed. (The rotation is part of the purchase price, balance, I pay for). These tires are rated for 50,000 miles. Just the other day, in a heavy rain, I felt a little hydro-plane with the tires.

Good Year tires ........ NO

The coopers do last long, but get very hard near the middle of treadwear. This is fine for normal driving, but can be very slippery in the winter up here. A harder compound tire will last longer, but will have far less traction. I use coopers on my work vehicles, however I found the last 10ply discoverers to have very soft sidewalls, I am thinking I may have got a mislabeled batch.

I put firestones on for my last set on the truck, which I am much happier. I think cooper may be letting quality drop a bit.

I have carlisle on my current trailer, they seem to be wearing fine, but I took a chunk outta the sidewall of one when I rolled over one of my stop bricks. No lost air, and it didn't bulge...but I gotta go get it replaced. Pretty much the only think we can get here is the carlisle or goodyears.

I'm gonna try another set of COOPER tires like I had. I "hope" they hold up like these!! ;)
