I have been bringing an old boat back to life this winter. I have it almost complete and have put in in the water once already. I have a little bit more to do though. The ramp I use is a little steep so alot of the trailer is under water. It was a little tricky getting it loaded and am looking to install a set of guide ons for the trailer. What type of guide ons are the best to use? I have looked at the pole type and the roller type. What works best? I posted a picture of the boat I have if that helps. Thanks

I had these on my last boat and they were fairly worthless. http://www.iboats.com/Shipshape-Rol...05353634--**********.559219701--view_id.38722 They were especially bad if I backed the trailer in a little too far cuz they would get hung up under the boat.

My "new" boat came with these http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=3687 and they are SWEET! (iboats has them also here http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Trailer-...earch--submit.x.0--submit.y.0--view_id.238441 but there was no picture.

I prefer the vertical three to five foot pole type. They work in deeper/steeper ramps better than any of the horizontal board types.
Where we launch, the boat would drift right over the board type guides. And a person would still have to hold the stern inalignment with the trailer as if there were no guides at all.

Ayuh,.... The ramps I use are steep too,...
Just for that reason alone, I agree about the Tall vertical guide-ons,.
Otherwise,.. The boat floats right over top of 'em..
Here's what I built,...

Yeah, I made mine as well- out of galvanized pipe covered by PVC.
I put the lights up high to keep 'em out of the water.

I had a semi roller type setup on mine just cut them off and going with the tall poles should work much better. Plus had the long side boards on another trailer work great but not on steep ramps boat can float over the top of them. One more thing that is a sweet looking boat, that is what I want next I just have to figure out where to hide it from the (First Mate) she loves boating but thinks two boats are enough already.....

We have a muffler shop here that will bend 2" ss pipe for vertical posts, charges like $50, throw some pipe-lights on and you're good.

Im using a set of 60" high LED lighted guides that work out perfectly. We launch regularly from a very steep ramp that the rear of the trailer is completely gone from sight. These not only keep the boat dead centered regardless of water depth but have the advantage of LED lights on the top of the post to give me guidance on those occasions that we come back to the ramp well after dark. I think mine came from Overtons but I'm sure they are avilable in lots of places.
