Which used outboard should I look to buy?

I'm looking to buy a used 5hp to 10hp in the near future. I may go out fishing maybe once or twice a week on an older 14' SeaNypmh. Which type of outboard is easiest to find parts for/fix? I've been trying to fix an 1951 Johnson Seahorse 5hp TN-27, but I'm about to give up on it. I've noticed its hard to find parts for engines before 1955. I've been thinking about a Briggs and Stratton 5hp. Should be easy to find parts for these right?

In that range, I would get a water-cooled, 4 hp Johnson/Evinrude from the 80's. One with a neutral. They are proven reliable and smooth. Parts are available.
The Briggs is a one-lung arm shaker.
I have a 6 hp Johnson (1970) and a couple of 1950's 3 hp Evinrudes. I enjoy the 3's more than the 6 because of their light weight and integrated fuel tank.

For parts and service availability you can't beat an 80's or newer Johnson/Evinrude. Great motors too. For a 14' I'd get the 9.9HP.

X2 What ezmobe said. Best bang for the buck IMO.

I would get a '55, '56, '57, or '62 or '63 OMC 10hp. Those are all super good motors, easy to work on, easy to start, run like a swiss watch. Easy to find parts for as well. I have a '55 and '56 10hp---- both johnsons, and they're 2 of my favorite motors. You need a 10hp to go a reasonable speed on plane if you're a fat butt like me (235lbs).
Just my opinion,

80s OMCs,Evinrude/Johnson, are the best engines ever made, they are simple as a stone and parts are still readily available, find a good one and take care of it and it will outlast you.

I bought a 1961 Merc 6hp with a broken recoil from a guy who replaced it with one of the B&S outboards. He told me the Merc was a much better motor.
