Which way should I route my controls???

I have a 5.2 metre dory which is similar to a dell quay dory. I have almost finished building a 2 man centre console out of marine ply and have started painting it. I have just collected the controls (which are morse) and ideally would like to fit them next. unfortunately the cables are far too long as they came off a bigger boat which had a forward wheelhouse, whereas mine will have the helm only a couple of metres forward of the transom. How do I determine the length of the cables I need? How much slack should there be and what would be the best way to route the cables?

Go to the Marine Store and look at cables. They have a link or instructions on how to measure the length of cable you need.

Seeing as you have a center console setup, the steering cable is usually run down to the floor and back to the transom, then an S to get it to line up with the steering tube. You can also go down, then off to the side and up to the gunnel and back to the transom.
