Hi installing a new water pump in my 1989 Mariner 40hp. The old impeller was in really bad shape. Which way does the impeller spin? Need to know so I can put the new impeller in the housing correctly.
You put the impeller on the shaft.-------Make sure that key is driving the impeller.-------Then lower the housing onto the impeller.------Turn shaft the way the motor turns it and push down on the housing.--------Nothing to it.
Follow racerone's instructions and you will be okay. However, if for chance you install it incorrect and it is now sealed up. Don't worry either because as soon as you crank the engine the fins will turn to the correct positions near instantly...
Normally the driveshaft turns CW, looking from the top.I lube up the impeller cup, and as I push down on the upper waterpump, I turn the driveshaft CW and the impeller bends and goes into the cup and housing.
