IMO, you'll lose some hole shot, & rpm with the stainless, but it still might be faster, because the stainless doesn't flex! The 17" Alum willgive you better holeshot, and more rpm.
We find that a properly set up ss prop almost always gives a better holeshot than an aluminum prop. Actually it's not unusual to go up a size going to ss from aluminum and having a better holeshot and a better top end. Especially if the set up wasn't maxed out with the aluminum.

Dhadley, did you happen to read my review on turning point propellers? If so, could you please tell me what I could expect if I switched to that Stiletto SS that I was considering? Not trying to bust your boys or anything of the sort, I am just curious what benefit the SS would be over my turning point prop? I am sure my ventilation in turns would be slightly better as I still get some on the sharp turns but could I also expect more speed and a better holshot? If so, would it be noticable? Thanks..............Irv
The main benifit of ss over aluminum is that you can run a higher X dimension which reduces drag and therefore increases efficiency. Now that's assuming you're testing a decent ss and a decent aluminum prop. You might have a great aluminum prop and see no gain with a worn out or miss-application of a ss prop.
You have to adjust your set up for the technology in the prop. Running everything at the same X dimension, set back & balance won't give you a true test.
My best guess would be that the Stiletto might have better lift than an aluminum prop which reduces drag again. I've never tested a Stiletto aginst a Turning Point so I can't say. I think Walleyehed has. I don't know of anybody around here running an aluminum prop on anything 50hp & larger. They just wouldn't last very long.
