What are your favourite brands of whiskey and how do you drink them ?

I'm partial to most types of Scotch and I drink it straight on ice...Johnny Walker, Chivas Regal, Grants, Glenfiddich...age/price dependent on how rich I feel at the time (or how much overseas travel I'm doing). I find it hard to pick an overall favourite (they're all good :D ), but recently was introduced by an Irish friend to "Jameson" - Irish Whiskey... and that is good stuff!!..very smooth (triple distilled). If forced to name a favourite (in the reasonable price category) right now I'd pick Jameson.

Is anyone here a fan of Irish whiskey ? If so which do you recommend ?

Cheers :D

Glenfiddich when the budget allows - neat.

As for irish, always a bottle of Jameson in the house - on ice or neat. IMO its the best for your buck (much smoother than Black Douglas).

Aldo

Scotch drinker here.

Use Highland Mist to mix my favorite. .. Rusty Nails, neat.

Favorite blended is Chivas Regal, favorite single malt is MacAllen, both neat. Save those for special occasions like today, when I turn 69.

When I drink the occasional whiskey it is Jameson hands down. That is the smoothest whiskey bar none.

I'll have one in your Honor JB, Happy birthday.

back when my blood pressure was low and I was normal weight, I used to drink Makers Mark, Crown Royal and Johnny Walker Red.

After being told my blood pressure was high and I needed to loose 20lbs, somewhere along the line the alcohol was off the menue....

Pressure is lower, almost normal.

Chevas or Johnny Walker. If i can afford it black or once in a lifetime blue label.I never spoil the taste with nasty ice. When it is room temperature it is possible to taste the oak aroma from the barrel.
When drinking cheap whiskey it is a good idea to hide the taste and mix it.

Thanks for your replies guys, very interesting.

Mark42, that's great news about getting your blood pressure down...even good whiskey is no substitute for good health.

Crab, the good ole story makes it taste even better...I'd better get some of that.

JB, Happy Birthday and many more rusty nails! (I'll have to try one of those too)

...and it looks like Jameson is more popular than I realised (but not surprising though).

Cheers & good health fellow whiskey drinkers! :D

Pretty partial to single malt scotch, prefer Islay or highland malts. Straight. Favorite so far is Lagavulin, but at $60/bottle, I don't get to drink it a lot!

I like maker's mark and wild turkey too, esepcially the wild turkey rye. Yum!

Crown is fine. Jack Daniel's is good, but I have found that Jim Beam is actually smoother. I like it on the rocks, and enjoy sipping away slowly. Any decent bourbon will do.

Can't handle scotch---makes my stomach burn like the ****ens. I'm a bourbon man, at least when it comes to hard liquor.

*hic*

-dd-

Jim Beam Rye (yellow label) straight .. no frills... my palate likes it.

there is another I like but, I can't remeber the name.

After the person told me what they paid for it I didn't like it soo much and chose to forget about it.
