Hi everyone,

After finally getting my motor running and using it for 2 full days I noticed a small pool of very white oil on the floor of my shed where I had laid down the motor. It seemed to be coming from the exhaust (not the pinhole, the actual exhaust outlet). When I drained the lower unit oil it was completely white. It is a 1967 evinrude 6 hp. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

It is unburned fuel/oil that went through the engine and emuslified with the spent cooling water. Very normal, common, and not to be concerned. It isn't broke and doesn't need fixing.

EDIT: Oops, retract that statement time. You say the lower unit oil is the same color? Well now I think it isn't what I said, but the shift rod seal is probably leaking.

Is this a type of seal I can purchase separately or is it something I can get in a kit? Do you know if they make a kit for all gaskets for the lower unit since I am assuming I would have to take it all apart anyway?

cool,

i plan on purchasing the lower unit seal kit from iboats, just need to check my suffix letter. I'm not really sure what the shift rod seal is though, would it come in this kit or is it something else? thanks

The gearcase seal kit contains the shift rod seal. The shift rod seal is the small o-ring (left side in pic). The real challenge is removing it, but there's some helpful info on this.
