I just wanted to make sure that it was normal for a boat to smoke a little after it has sat for a couple minutes, in the water, and restarted. When I change out skiers then start the boat there is a white smoke that comes from exhaust. It will go away after about 30 seconds, but it always scares me. I have a 2 year old 4.3L mercury I/O. thanks for the help and can't wait to get out this weekend.

Does the engine shut right off or does it diesel a little bit when you turn the ignition off after a hard ski run?

kind of scary that you know it diesels down. Sounds like you may know what could be wrong.

When it diesels, there's a possibility of ingesting water back up into your engine. Always let it idle for a couple minutes before turning the key off.....less likely to diesel.
btw, welcome to THE board.

As Wotknot said, you are injesting some water on shutdown, when the dieseling occurs. If it sucks in too much, you will hydrolock. As he said let it idle for a bit, before shutdown. Running the vent fan while your running might help, too. Still happening after a couple of minutes, make sure engine has a tune-up, including timing and carb idle & mixture..
