White Smoke

I have a Johnson 150. It has not been run in several months. I flushed it yesterday before taking it out. It runs great. Great acceleration - just like it was running before. However, it is now spitting out a lot of white exhaust. Is this because of excess oil sitting for several months? Will it work itself out? Should I add a gas additive?

check your compression, white usually means water. if you have a plug that looks steam cleaned you have water getting in that cylinder.

I checked the plugs. They look great. None fouled, none "steam cleaned".

It is fairly common these days to find water in the bottom of the tank because everything else floats on water. The pickup is in the bottom of the tank.

You might want to consider adding a full-sized, water separating fuel filter to your setup. They need to be mounted to work properly because they depend on gravity to function.

I had a similar issue on a two stroke 70 hp. found out that the seal for sending unit on the oil tank was not installed correctly. Rain water drained down into the oil tank. oil floats on water, oil pickup on bottom of tank. sucked water into the oil pump lots of white smoke. If this is a two stroke check the oil sight and make sure it is not a clear liquid.
