First thing that comes to mind is to re-torque the head bolts. Are you flushing the motor with fresh water after running in saltwater? Has the powerhead been rebuilt? That may leave some bare metal exposed that would corrode. Coat that area with paint after a thorough cleaning. Even if you brush it on.

This is a fact of life when you run your motor in salt water. It still happens even when you flush after use.

Make sure you flush your motor for 10-15 mins ASAP after each use with the ear muffs.

There is a product you can use could SALT AWAY. The brochures make it sound really good, but I have never used it. It hepls to dissovle salt deposits, It will not cure your problem now, but it may have prevented it from occurring. If you have not replaced the head gaskets within the last 5 years, then now would be a good time. You can bead blast the water passages in the cylinder heads whilst they are off. Hope this helped.

Re: white stuff around cylinder head ????

thanks Guys! I have owned the motor since 1997 about nine years now and it has great and never let me down, only thing i have changed on it in the last 9 years was the t/t motor,I did a compression check on 11/25 2003 and the readings where

108 110
110 110

looking at the motor from the back i guess it would be a good idea to just replace gaskets, but first i will do a commpression chech again to see what it is now this is for magnum what is a bead blast? thanks

a bead blaster is when you spray fine glass particles against the surface with a high pressure compressed air stream. Usually done in an enclosed cabinet and you look thru the window, whilst holding the part you are spraying with heavy duty gloves. have a phone around and see if your local auto repair shop has one, or knows who else has got one.

You may want to get your local machine shop to skim the gasket mating surface of each head, maybe take off 0.010" (10 thou) or a bit less.
