There is one thing any employer in the wrong doesnt ever want and that is documentation. Any legal claim no matter what the issue is worthless without it. Documentaion, and things in writing forsing them to respond or show lack of concern by NOT responding are tools you must have to ever go up against a company. "He said she said" never holds up in a law suit but documentation will.

OSHA standards are there for a reason.. to protect those doing hazardous work. I worked high steel and high voltage for 20 years and I never sent anyone out on a job alone. We all get complacent with what we consider the mundane and that's when people get hurt. When my guy comes to work on the AC and I know he's alone, I'll stay with him as an observer and tell him let me know if you need a third hand.

Sometimes common sense is not so common in the corporate world...

Re: Who else works alone?

how much is your life worth to you?

maybe think about a job change, but dont go lifting 175# by yourself. I had close calls and electric shocks, know about dangerous jobs. just do what you have to do to make sure you live. I would never change a belt while it's running. maybe if you fall behind enough you'lkl get a second guy.

how is your wife going to get along without you? is rushing worth it?

Maybe mcD better get a preventative manintenance plan where they give you time to go around and change parts and do maintenance so it's not a rush job when it breaks

If you get hurt breaking a OSHA safety rule, you can be found negligent and your employer may escape liability for some of your injury.

Re: Who else works alone?

Sorry for the delay. My main computer crashed, got a new one, it crashed, and this one is barely running.

I'm okay, just busy helping out my BIL in his concession trailers. My knee was just bruised along with my ego.

Don't have much time as this computer is sooooooo slow.

Trying to get my new Dell up and running. It doesn't show an ethernet driver, but wants me to log onto their website to download one. Can't do that without that driver. Sure does stink not having access to the web as I did.

Hopefully I'll be back online again once the new computer is figured out. Thanks shipmates, you are a bunch of great people...........SS

Re: Who else works alone?

I drive a truck alone, so It's my sole responsibility to show up on time, stay awake and not hit anything, but that how the job goes. :)

There is plenty of work that would keep another person busy as there could be more things attended to in a shorter time span. The company feels that I am able to keep up with the demand even though some things don't get repaired as quickly as they should.

I just wish there was a policy in place that would look after my own well being while on the job. Upper management doesn't think it is worth the time and effort since it would only pertain to one person,,,,,being me.

There are many, many jobs similar, to yours and not , where people work alone.

If you are concerned about your saftey, but regularily work in an unsafe manner, that might be the place to start.

You may be doing both yourself and the company a disservice, by working this way. You may get hurt, but Company thinks things are getting done SAFTELY and (mostly) on time.

You may have to "fess up" that you have been cutting corners to save time, but that will stop, for the sake of saftey. At least they will have a heads-up if the work load starts to back up. Then at least they can make an informed decision, to see if they need more help.

They probably won't like it but, so what? You have a right to safe conditions, plus you won't be able to work for them anyway, after your right hand gets cut off.

If they fire you, there will be a line of lawyers, that would gladly take your case.

Do what's right.
