If you read the thread on entry level runabout, you'll see I just bought a boat at the boat show. I want to know who has taken their boat out this year, and what the temp was, did you rewinterize etc. Lets hear some stories. A buddy of mine has a huge trout hanging on his wall he caught on his boat when the lake was freezing over. He said he had to break up the ice on the boat ramp to get in the water.

Well, I'm sure my boating doesn't count in this thread. We really dont have a "non-boating" season. But a very interesting question. We'll be very interested in the rest of the responses.

OK, we did catch some good size redfish this year between Christmas and New Year's.

I was out on the Snake River in late December and it was so cold the water turned to ice and plugged the intake. We were fortunate to get back to the ramp without too much ado. On January 1st we went upriver 6 miles and bagged a ration of mallards. Does that count? In November on the "River of No Return" we bagged a couple of limits of steelhead. Boating goes year round here. ;)

Im with Dhadley. Ive had mine out twice this week. Tuesday and yesterday. About 70 degrees and no ice on the water anywhere. Kinda muddy though. And havent had to winterize anything this winter. We havent had a night below freezing yet. :p

West Coast of Canada. I never winterize. She's ready to go year round. This is (so far) the only winter we haven't taken her out, but only because January was raining for 29 of the 31 days.

No winterizing here, boat goes out at least every other week (usually every week). It's been out 38° weather, but it usually warms up pretty rapidly. Usually leave out in 50-60° weather with it warming into the 60-70s.

I've been out... and I don't winterize. It's not cold enough to warrant it. I do a winter check of everything on board, get my extingushers re-certified and do the drive fluids during the off season... that's about it. I'm ready to rock 24/7/365 We've been to the Gulf Islands and Cowichan Bay a couple times. Those are day trips if I'm just putting. Rain I can deal with... wind is a different story.

Every weekend as long as the clam beds are open. In past years had to break thru 6" of ice at the launch (saltwater) to get the boat (20'cc) in when the temps went to single digits. No matter how cold it gets it's still better than staying home :D

I don't winterize since it's used all year. During the summer the biger boat (26') is used more.
Been out 3 times and at 49 mph the wind chill made my eyes water so badly I couldn't see; had to shut her down. Ambient was 35 or more as the day progressed.

Engine sure didn't like to get going at that temp. Got engines strangled down so much nowadays for EPA you can't hardly get enough fuel to them to get them going on cold mornings. Bout wore out the "fuel enrichment" function.

Mark

Re: Who has had there boat out this year

I got out a couple weekends ago, air temp was 55 and water temp was 39 degrees. Stayed on the lake for about 4 hours, didn't catch anything but it was still good to get out. We had a very warm January so I didn't think it going to freeze again that's why I took the boat out. Guess what? it is freezing right now. Night time is in the low 20's and day time low 30's. I haven't rewinterize and don't plan on doing it, hoping it will warm up soon.

Re: Who has had there boat out this year

Our weather is supposed to be nice this weekend after a rainshower, so either Saturday or Sunday I'll be taking my boat out without question...I've got spring fever big time!
Or maybe that's Cabin fever, either way I gotta get out in the boat!

Haven't run it with the new prop yet, so I'm hoping I can get over 25mph and 2500 rpms!! :)
Got a 14x17 on now vs the old 14x21, engine is running good and the accelerator pump has been replaced.....

And I'm going to attach my race motor to the kicker transom and give it a run too....

One more shot from last year :) (This brings back good warm fuzzy memories of when it wasn't cold and raining!)
