Who has Nautolex Deco Dot in their boat?

I like the Nautolex Deco Dot vinyl deck covering. The samples I received look and feel good too.

I'm planning on installing this in my boat, and was wondering what iboats members think about it after having it in their boats. Also wondering how the seams were finished, (butt edged or overlap).

Your comments are greatly appreciated!

I understand that it has been discontinued. Says so right here. http://www.csctextiles.com/Nau.htm

Get your roll before it is too late. I had a sample of the stuff, too, and need to get mine as soon as possible. I need the brite blue color but may be out of luck. That was discontinued a while back but one or two guys still had it in stock as of last year.

The other textured stuff (pictured below) they have in stock has too many recessed areas and would be an easy dirt trap. :(

Woh! Darren, I hope you don't plan on buying from that place (csctextiles.com). Their prices are 60% higher !!! They sell the deco dot and the regular vinyl for 34.95 a yard. Defender.com sells it for 20.99 yard.

I'll call Nautolex and find out if deco dot is really discontinued.

Thanks for the heads up!

I jsut found another place that sells it.

$26.95 a yard.

Other sites say that it has been discontinued and just the earth tones are on the manufacturers site. I'll assume it is true. Can't afford to get any until later anyway.

The one complaint I've read in old forum posts have been about the adhesive. They say if one lasy the Deco Dot down and lifts it back up in an attempt to reposition it, folks get spots of adhesive that stick to the deck or vinyl and will not adhere again.

3m spray adhesive worked great for Deco Dot. The key to it, I guess, is to spray both the floor and the vinyl and ensure good, even coverage.

I have it on my boat, I like it. We laid the floor down then did the sides with a slight overlap to the floor vinyl, which is hidden by the sidewalls. So far it's holding up well (1 yr).

It's pretty easy to use material.

We bought ours from Defender and I can recommend their customer service. The original roll they sent us, which arrived in 1 day from CT, was the wrong stuff, someone transposed the order numbers. I called and received the correct stuff 1 day later, and they never asked me to return the other stuff, which is now in my brother's tinny :D

Thanks. Great info.

Does it clean up easy? Does it show wear after 1 year?

I sent and email to Nautolex asking about the Deco Dot being discontinued. This is their reply:

Mark, only certain colors are discontinued....

Available colors are:
Black
Charcoal
Ivory
Medium Gray
Mushroom
White

Thanks,
Diana
Its not too uncommon to have colors change and be discontinued. The colors I liked were the ivory, mushroom and medium grey.

So far Mark, no issues with UV fading, no rips or tears. As far as cleaning, well we put the white down, so of course everything shows. We fish and cruise, so I have seen everything from slime to soda hit that floor and so far so good.

I guess the one drawback I can attest to is my own fault. I put a new floor in this boat and there is a seam running port to starboard where I fit 2 pieces of ply together. Since I was dumb and didn't read up on Oops' super duper peanut butter mix, I simply used fiberglass tape and resin to join 'em. While it is water tight, that tape seam does create the tiniest of bumps right thru the middle of the boat. If the vinyl can hold up another season with people walking on that seam, I will be pretty assured the flooring is tough enough to last a long time.

I suppose it goes without saying that white will show any and all imperfections in the floor of your boat. It looks great, albeit making the boat very bright. But we don't burn our feet! :D

Edko, thanks so much for taking the time to post your experience with Deco Dot. Makes me think its the right product for me.

BTW, how do any overlap joints look? I ask because I can imagine the dots making a raised area and water could get underneath. Is that the case?
