watermann I am sure that the boatshops could keep someone busy around here its mostly i/o glasser boats which I ve got no interest in working on, plus it adds a whole new vulnerability in getting sued should something go wrong and tighter schedules. where as a fix and flip requires no time scedule. I can choose what i work on and while doinf a documented quality job sold as is substantially decreases the risk of being sued.

get a good 25-26 footer and bring it to Oregon. It should sell for 2k. A boat that sells for 3k in the mid west is a 5-6k boat in Oregon.
Boats on the west coast are priced high.

good thinking, IMHO. we all know what dolts most folks are about boats and how they manage to sink and destroy boats and drown themselves through stupidity and BAC. and we all know what a tendency the human race has to point the finger elsewhere, anywhere else, when they screw up big. photo-documented resto to standards better than factory new would pretty much cover your arz 100%....not only would you be able to get opinions from folks here who are experts, an engineer from the Land o' Goshen could look at the pix and opine that you done it beyond right.

I can only drive one at a time that explains why I've already got three right.

I enjoy doing it alot, and if it brings gas and fishing money even better. I can only store about 8 at one time so I cant keep them all.

Jeez, don't let the Admiral hear or read that. We'll all be toast if they start thinking of it that way

Well the Toon, the SS, and the new donor boat.

I was laughing with the admiral the other night on my way back to knoxville to buy trailer hubs, and said "I love the fact that you don't yell at me over my antics anymore you just roll your eyes"

She smacked the back of my head.

^^^ Too funny, I got that look when I said I was thinking of removing the cap on our boat. We just don't have a ton of money to be throwing at the boat. If we had more money she would be all for it, but gotta try to rebuild it on a budget.

Funny how they say no for a half an hour without ever saying "No".

LOL ROFL

I said that same thing $2500.00 ago

It didn't help that the new donor boat was a forgiveness instead of permission thing. I am hoping within another month to have another tinny in the driveway to put the 75 hp rude on.

Hey whats 6 sheets of ply, 2 gallons of spar, 3 sheets of closed cell foam,$150 for engine parts, and $300.00 worth of finishing materials anyways.

$180+$65+$115+$300+$300.00+$150=$1110 Then when you subtract reselling a trailer and the donor hullr for $150 leaves a balance of -$960 sell a flipped tinny for $1800 leaves a decent proffit of $840 for 8 months and 1000 hours labor means you make a tidy proffit of $0.84 per hour.

BUT $840 pays for boat gas and a fishing license for the summer.

You got it bad Sig, now into the rationalizing stage, the next stage is where when she asks for the receipts you have to tell her you spilled spar on the stack and had to throw them out.:laugh:

What about a racking system for the boats? You could store vertically.....

It would be nice to fix up a worn out tinny for some gas money. We have talked about it many times at the shop but have never followed through....

Re: Who here has done a flip boat.

Just some early pre-caffeine kick-in thinkin':

If there's any hope for the trailer under the SS currently (the 1 you plan to sell w/ the donor hull) I'd consider keeping it. Unless you think you can rehab a different trailer, you haven't yet seen, for less then the $150 you'll ask for the donor on a trailer.

Even if it's a roller trailer & you prefer bunks. It may still be a better trailer then a low cost flip tinny's.

Also make tinny's on a trailer the seller wants to keep a possible candidate.

Re: Who here has done a flip boat.

I could never survive flipping anything not even a nice boat. My refurbishing habits take too long and therefore I may could recoup the material costs, but never ever the labor and consumables involved. I don't short cut anything I do. I have to please myself and that would be making every little thing like new. So labor would take forever...
