best to do what,, there is no best period first you need to determine what you want it to do then maybe you will be able to get valid input as to possible best case for what it is intended to be used for. every manufacturer has skies that are probably better suited for one use as opposed to another use plus cost ,fuel consumption, reliability , hull design, and fubars in manufacturing.they all have their weaknesses.

Re: Who is king of the PWC???

I'm partial to Seadoo, but that is because I have one!:) Actually, I do feel that Seadoo has the best ski right now by my standards. The fastest accelerating ski out there is the RXP-X with a 0 to 50 of 2.9 seconds. If I had the money I would have one to go with my modified XP. I also like its aggressive look and love the new X bars and finger throttle. I got to take one out at Nationals last year and for a stock ski it is a beast!

If you like to cruise than a Yamaha Cruiser SHO would be the best ski for you. Kawasaki has some nice ski's too. The Ultra is a great race ski and you will see a lot of them at Nashville and Havasu this year. Honda has a great reliability record and the new F15X looks pretty solid. If you like stand ups than its hard to argue that the Hydrospace S4 is the king of the water.

There is no one king of PWC, there are a lot of great PWC out there right now. Its all just a matter of personal taste.

King how? Quality? Performance? Resale value? Raw sales numbers?

Whoever made this poll forgot a huge player in the PWC market, Honda. I think that their bikes are probably the best quality on the planet and quality is what I go for EVERY time. I could give a rats *** how fast the bike goes if I'm buried under the seat working on it every other trip out.

unfortunately Honda really missed the B O A T with their first attempt to get in the p w c market,, I honestly believed they would do a great job based on their reputation,, however I understand they are attempting to correct this and perhaps the new design will save them. But the first Honda's were not desirable.

+1

It really is a personal choice. I prefer Yamaha's. I really believe they have the best hulls. Also their new 1800cc engine is a monster and it takes regular fuel ( a huge plus). If you're a speed demon then they also have greater potential when the aftermarket parts start to hit the market. There's no replacement for displacement. It really all depends on you're riding habits. Each manufacturer has there pros and cons.

While that may have been true for the older 2 strokes. I think most of the newer 4 strokes don't have these problems. Truthfully, I never had any issues with my older 2 stroke Yamaha UNTIL I started modifying it. Even then, it always ran well and I never had any issues. But, I did rebuild it every year so that may have helped prevent problems before they arose. I never saw it as a big deal because I truly enjoyed working on the ski. That being said, and now that I am older, I don't think I'd want to go through that again. Luckily the new skis are plenty fast right out of the box. All the new performance skis will hit close to 70 stock. There are people who have gotten their ski close to 95 mph but that's just insane if you ask me. I understand the desire and I'm not putting them down, it's just not for me anymore. I'm sure if I were twenty again I'd be doing it:). I am actually considering one of the new Yamaha's (FZR) if I can figure out where to dock it. My pier is pretty full right now.

Re: Who is king of the PWC???

It is hard to choose a best overall, but personally I think all around Kawasaki is the best.
I bought a brand new 1200STX-R in 2002, it is a 3-seater. With 3 people (prob a total of 550lbs), and a full tank of gas, I could still hit 72mph with no mods to the engine.
Also, the hull was the most stable, it was hard to tip over, it was sturdy, reliable, and I never had a problem with it, other than one fouled plug after a year and a half.
That ski was fast, looked great, stable, and user-friendly.
I also liked the finger throttle as opposed to the thumb throttle, that thumb throttle on Sea-Doo can just get annoying.
I have ridden every type, I don't care for Honda, Yamaha is good, I don't like Sea-Doo's thumb throttle, and Polaris is great for towing, but probably the least popular manufacturer.

We bought a yamaha. One reason we did was because I looked at what the majority of rental companies were using. It was yamaha. It would seem to me that they would by a brand that cold handle abuse and require little repair.

We also did like you and asked lots of folks. Most came back with yamaha. We bought a 1999 in 2000 and used it for 2 years before selling it. We never had any trouble. It was an 1100 wave venture triple 2 stroke.

We sold it when we had our first child and bought a boat. I'd by another yamaha if we get back in the jet ski market again.

I hate to burst your bubble. I have a 2004 stxr1200 - same machine, and well yeah - perhaps if you believe the speedo it may have shown 72mph, but those skis do not do more than 63-64 in reality. That said, I have really enjoyed mine over the years.

Best ski ever - yamaha super jet.

I have run it against other boats and skis, with the same results.

Re: Who is king of the PWC???

aftre doing a lot of looking and research,, I just decided on a new kawasaki 250x supercharged intercooled,, it's a rocket. after owning sea doo 4 tecs for many years and finally getting tired of fixing them all the time, I decided I would never buy another sea doo. I am quite impressed with the kawasaki and aside from eating a lot of fuel I have no complaints so far.

Try a GPS and take a picture. I know they feel fast but they are not that fast. Water speepos are very inaccurate.

My favorite ski is the one I paid $1150 for with trailer. It works great.

that reminds me of when a guy insisted his vx110 was going more than 70 mph
I informed him that was not possible ,, he insisted it was,, later he realized it was set on kilometers per hour..lol.
