My neighbor Dominick is 88 yrs old. He clams, crabs, fishes, and maintains the best veggie garden and fig trees in town. I think makin' and samplin' his own wine is the key to long, happy living!!

My Grandma just turned 89 and she still does most herself, including tending her garden. Her older brother just passed and he has 93. I hope I have that luck...

My brother's now deceased neighbor was 105, living alone, and tending his garden and mowing his lawn. He would get in the car and drive to the partial care home to visit his 2 sons! His grand kids made him give up the house and the garden and 6 months later he passed away. He as great as long as he kept going.

My grandmother is 89. She can't see well, hear well, or get around well, but she's still as sharp as a tack and has a very good sense of humor about all of it. She's also the "goodest" person I know. <3 Granny!:)

She can also still out fish most of us with just a cane pole!

My dad.He is 93 and going strong. He just got himself a new girl friend. The old fart keeps on reminding me about all the stupid things I did when I was a kid.
It is good that we do not live very close to each other.

One of my frat. brothers is 87 and gets all over the place.. He has been working me to death trying to get his old outboards running so he can go trotlining for catfish. He grows a big garden and is constantly picking vegetables and bringing them to me. I only hope I can live that long and be as active as he is.

Re: Who is the oldest active person you know

I stopped my my folks yesterday for a cup of wisdom. Mamma is 87, Pop is 90. Mamma was standing oustide the back part of the house. We talked for a few minutes then I asked where Pop was. She freaks out and states "OMG, I forgot ! ! He's under the house and I was suppose to bring him another flashlight." and she tears off in to the house for the flashlight. I stoop down and look through the access door under the folks house and see movement way in the far corner. Its Pop, belly crawling around under the house with a 20 ton hydraulic jack, sack of 1/2 inch metal shims and a piece of a railroad cross tie jackin the house up so a couple of the doors will stop draging......rather than trim the bottom of the door. Got a report from their neighbor the other day that Pop had his truck backed up to an oak tree, ladder in the back of the truck with mamma holding it and him about 6 limbs up from that with a damn chain saw cutting dead limbs out of the tree.

So I guess it'd have to be my Mamma and Daddy are the most active old folks I know. I worry to death about him and his doings but also hope and pray i'm just like him.

Dang ehenry...................it's a shame they don't have any "good kids"to help them with that sort of thing. ;):p:) All kidding aside, my mom is just like that except she is only 75. Just last week I told her I'd be by Sat. morning to cut her grass. (First cutting since the new lawn was sodded) I get there at about 9:30 and the lawn is already cut. I ask mom who she got to cut the grass...........she says I did it yesterday with the push mower..................I know how busy you are she says.:redface:

Re: Who is the oldest active person you know

...that would be my mother-in-law. Now just north of 90 years old. She recently had to give up curling because all of her team mates had basically...well passed on.
She still gardens, puts up all of her canned tomatoes. She still has her seasons pass to the Saskatchewan Roughriders CFL team...which she will never give up and she rarely misses a game....hell or highwater.
She is sharp, athletic and pretty quick. She eats very healthy just because she grew up poor as a child of the depression and still likes the 'economical' aspect of fruit and vegetables. She probably weighs in at about 90 lbs soaking wet.
She's smokin' proud of her distant Scottish roots and her Canadian roots...good on her'.
All in all, pretty feisty, often jaded, but in very good health. I get along well with her for the better part and she is a good inspiration and matriarch to her family.
My two bits.

Re: Who is the oldest active person you know

remember just because the have a high chronological number, they are not helpless. it's great to offer to do things for them. but, also offer to help THEM do things. my two neighbors are thrilled when i need a 3rd hand. neither are mechanical. but they are willing to hold something, when i don't have enough hands.

Next door neighbor at the cottage is 84. He does all his own maintenance, yard work, etc. He also takes his 24' cuddy 30 miles to Lake Michigan by himself for a day or three cruise when he feels like it. Every year he takes it somewhere for a trip -- the last 3 years it was the Ottawa / St Lawrence, Mississippi between Dubuque and St Louis, Lake Huron / Georgian Bay.

Oh.. he also has a 16' Glastron trihull by his Florida condo he takes fishing 10 or 15 miles into the Gulf.

I often ask his advice on how to do things. Incredible guy.
