Can someone please tell me what this hose does? It comes out the back of my 1996 Mercury 75Hp outboard and has a plastic bullet shaped plug inserted into the end of it. It just hangs there.

Facts-------------Boats used to have holes drilled in the transom to mount a speedometer pitot tube.-----Airliners use them until they freeze and cause an ---"oops "------As an improvement they drilled a passageway in lower units to provide pressure to the speedometer " bourdon tube "-------My next boat speedometer will be a GPS unit.---Just provide 12 volts to it and go fast.
