Who made old Sea Kings?

Someone told me a 1957 5hp Sea King was made by Johnson. I thought Sears did and parts were impossible to find. Would a driveshaft seal and impeller be available? I'd be interested in some information on these motors.

I passed one of these up in nice shape, but had water in the lower gear case. It sold for $7. I see one is up to $125 on Ebay. Guess I should have bought it. Thanks.

Re: Who made old Sea Kings?

Your 57 Sea King was made by the Gale Division of Evinrude/Johnson, their generic mfg. division up into the 60's. Good, simple little motors and you can get parts from E/J parts folks. Earlier models, say back into the 40's, are harder to find parts for. Post your model number and we can peg the year exactly...should on a plate, maybe on the transom clamp. They are easy to service, keep and run. Real workhorses.
