Re: Who made the starter on my 86 Force 50hp
Well Admiral Sir, you were not correct, my terminal is on the side and my starter is American Bosch.
Just wanted to share my fix incase anyone is having similar problems. My motor was hard to turn over unless I had a fully charged battery, and even then over time it got harder and harder to crank. The best way to describe the symptoms is it would barley turn over like the battery was very low or dead. I started by changing battery leads but it didnt help. I read the forums and everyone advises to clean all contacts and terminals along the ignition loop. I checked all and they were good. I removed the starter from my boat and brought it to a rebuild shop. The guy said it was bad off, worn out bushing and something else. He rebuilt it in a day or two for $40. I reinstalled it this morning and gave her a crank, THE DANG THING NEARLY SPUN OFF THE MOTOR!!! It spins like a champ now, engine cranks faster than ever.
