Re: Who manufactured tri-hull outboards in the 80s?

I thought tri-hulls were more of a 70's thing.
Probably. I was actually thinking deck boats originally in the thread ... which is more of an 80's thing.

Tri-hulls were definitely on their way out in the late 80's.

70s, 80s, it's all old (just like me).

Like someone said: it's all about how well they were taken care of and/or how much time and money you're willing to spend to restore them.

So do you guys think these fish-and-ski (tri hull or otherwise) with outboards would fit the bill?? I'm wondering of they will go in shallow water; they otherwise look suitable for everything else!

See previous comments... They aren't any better or worse than a modified v hull in shallow water, the limitation is the prop hanging down, not the hull.

Yes, the old fish and skis will go in the shallow water you are looking for and I think would be suitable for your needs.

Okay, so I think I decided on a boat, and it's not a tri-hull:

Grady-White 19' dual-console:

I should be able to get one from the 80's with outboard and trailer for $3000 or less? Would this be a decent price for a good boat?

Apparently these are good boats? I'm just wondering if it's too big for me. My 4Runner has 190HP. . . I don't want to blow it up.

Let me know what you guys think if this boat would be suitable for my application. . . .

Grady's are nice boats, and I like a dual console setup for sure. You'd need to look her over for rot, and make sure the motor runs well.

Personally, I'm skeptical about 45MPH from a 150HP on a 19' deep boat like that ... but I'm regularly wrong. I'm also thinking that the price is high, but that motor looks like it's in good shape (as best one can tell from a photo). For a 20 year old boat, I'd be looking under $3k.

One other thing: big fat Grady White dual console does not typically fit in "skinny" water.

sigh, you're right!

What is it I'm looking for, then?

Maybe I am looking for a deckboat. . . .

Is there anything like a grady-white 192, with the windshield toward the front and a big cockpit area?

This is what I'm looking for (that isn't a deep v):

I'm thinking if a Grady-white tournament 19 has a draft of 14", that's less than 24" with 2 passengers in "catfish" mode.

I'm thinking that's more than enough for what I need it for. GW is back on the list!

To whoever is still subscribed to this thread, thanks for reading my "thinking out loud."
