I watched this video a few years ago and came across it again today. For all those who are worrying about the size of their wake check out this video of Scott Byerly riding behind a barefoot boat with no tower and limited wake. Def a must see...

Aaaah, that was in 1994, did they have life jackets, hahaha, and the board is just that, a wide, short, ski with no fins, he could make that baby do what ever he wanted couldn't he.

Sick! He is definately not a joke, he has more balance and body control than most people will ever get on a wakeboard.

Awesome link, thanks.

Not to be a total "Mr Obvious" here...but...just in case a few people seeing this did not recognize exactly who Scott Byerly is...

And yeah, he knows a thing or two about the sport. It is pretty much ALL he has ever done, and made a very, very successful career and company out of what the rest of us consider an occasional hobby.

I've owned several of his boards over the years. Ride one now. And I pretty much suck regardless! LOL.

SICK! I wakeboarded for the second time ever this weekend. I was happy to get 6 inches of air and not face-plant. I wish I would have picked this up when I was young and flexible. My 34 year old neck was sore for two days after a couple good spills. So what are some of the beginner tricks? Wake to wake? Switching stance? No idea what these things are called either. Oh well, it's fun! :D

I'm working on switching stance back and forth right now, and just getting some air on jumps. Not wake to wake yet.

I'm thinking I'm going to remove the fins from my board now. I can feel them drag when I switch stance, but only for a bit.

Once I can switch stance reliably without sometimes falling, I'm going to try the bunny hop switch stance where you sort of jump to do it. Right now I just slide.

There's probably tons of forums with lots of suggestions. I just sort of make it up as I go along.

The tricks aren't why I'm out there anyway. It's because while I'm getting pulled by a boat, it's the only thing I'm thinking about. That and the sound of my board in the water on a calm day. I love it.

I hear ya!
I am an old dude in most wake-boarding opinions ( 39 ), but I have been having fun pushing the envelope as of lately. I still have the fins on, but love jumping the wake. I just got a tower & loving the new thrill...
HAVE FUN!!!!

I've been breaking my neck trying to get the backflip going, but I think I need instruction. I'm now completing the rotation, but not landing it.

One of my earlier attempts :)

Wow, nice try!

Can you do a back roll on a trampoline?

Maybe you'd get a bit more air if you crouched approaching the wake and stand up into it - or maybe that's more for a forward roll?

Anyway that sure was a good try!

Re: Who needs a big wake? MUST SEE VID!

if you want to complete your back flip you need to cut out much further and then start your cut back in while your way out there, as your approaching the wake start bending your knees down and once you hit the wake straighten your legs, you then you need to take the rope put it in your right hand and basically lean back the wake will flip you right over and you will need to do little to no effort at all to get around. sorry I mis-read it but by looking at the video your trying to do a back roll so basically same thing but instead of leaning back lean foward and the wake will flip you foward right over no problem but you can use the back flip technique as well I left it up anyways hahah
