Gone are the days of being loyal to one brand of car or another.<br /><br />GM owns Vauxhall, Opel, SAAB and 50% of New United (Toyota own the other 50%), Hummer, Isuzu, 20% of Suburu.<br /><br />Nissan owns 15% of Renault. Renault owns 44% of Nissan.<br /><br />Confused yet?<br /><br />Toyota owns 55% of Diahatsu.<br /><br />FIAT owns IVECO, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, 56% of Farrari, 50% of Maserati (Farrari owns the other 50%).<br /><br />What about now, confused?<br /><br />Volkswagen owns Bentley, SEAT, VW Nutzfag, 70% of SKODA, 99% of Audi - Audi owns Lamborgini & Bugatti.<br /><br />BMW owns Rover & Rolls Royce. BMW then sold the Landrover to Ford.<br /><br />DaimlerChrysler is the product of a merger between DaimlerBenz & Chrysler, they own a swag of brands including jeep & Hyundai. They also own 37% of Mitsubishi which in turn owns 17% of Proton, which in turn owns 64% of Lotus.<br /><br />Ford own Volvo, Jaguar and Landrover (the latest rover has a BMW engine), 33% of Mazda, Astin Martin, Lincoln and Mercury.<br /><br /><br />Hyundai use mitsubishi running gear, the new mitsubishi colt uses a mercedes motor, daewoo use GM, ford and mazda swap running gear.................................<br /><br />The only stand alone car manufacturers are (to the best of my knowledge) Honda & Porsche.<br /><br />Aldo

The Acura badge is simply a marketing ploy by Honda to present it's 'Prestige' range, same as the Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti & Mazda/Eunos arrangement. They are not seperate companies.

SEAT (pronounced - 'see at'), spanish POS. <br /><br />Proton, malaysian, used to be Ford (i think).<br /><br />Skoda, formerly Russian, now chech republic( - another POS.<br /><br />KIA is owned by hyundai. Hyundai is partially owned by DaimlerCrysler.<br /><br />VW nutzfag is the german arm of volkswagen - the original.<br /><br />Here's some trivia:<br /><br />Acura is only sold in north america, nowhere else in the world.<br /><br />The grandson of Ferdinand Porche is the general manager of VW nutzfag.<br /><br />Mitsubishi corporation is the largest corporate entity in the world, motor vehicle are only a small part of thier portfolio.<br /><br />Daewoo made forklifts way before cars, back in the seventies.<br /><br />Now I'm confused

TVR is the ultimate sportscar (IMO). It's a small independently owned car maker in Blackpool, England.<br /><br />Unfortunately for the british, it is now 100% owned by a russian.

Honda and Rover are linked too... in the 90's pretty much all the small/medium Rovers were rebadged Hondas-for example the Honda Concerto and the Rover 200 are the same car...and Rover AND Honda were using Peugot diesel engines...<br /><br />At least it makes getting spares easier now MG Rover have gone down the pan...

The Porsche Cayenne is built by Volkswagen, but that is a supply agreement, not an ownwership thing. There's definitely a difference.<br /><br />The Skodas are now rebadged VWs and much better cars. I understand it was such a POS before, that it was a generic term for POS in the UK . . . . <br /><br />There were Hondas badged as a Sterling once in the US that was assembled by Rover I think.<br /><br />The Pontiac GTO is a left hand drive Australian Holden Monaro, but that's different as it is owned by GM. One of the best built GM cars period . . . High quality, rear drive stuff, that the Aussies are real proud of. They should be, they are building what a US car should be like IMHO.

Honda used to be linked to Isuzu, or they bought the Rodeo from Isuzu and rebadged it Passport in the U.S. and of course GM and Isuzu have been sleeping together for some time.

Quietcat, the US GTO is rear wheel drive? If so I'd be lookin at GM cars for the first time, ifin I was in the market. I hate these frontwheel drive transverse motor POS. <br /><br />I just read when Chrysler designed the RWD Dodge Magnum, the had a back up plan for a FWD version. Chrysler spent so much time and money trying to convince people that FWD cab forward was such a hot deal they were afraid the American public would not buy RWD. Happily they were wrong.

Boom, the GTO is definately RWD. Fully independent rear suspension also. Quietcat is correct - the Holden Monaro is exported to the U.S. and rebadged Pontiac GTO. It's an Aussie icon muscle car.
