I have a good (3 liter omc) and have access to a clean (2.3 liter merc) boat that needs an engine which I have not yet looked at. Can I put a 3 liter engine in the place of a 2.3 liter. To me the 3 liter appears to be the the old chev "iron duke" engine. Is the 2.3 liter a smaller cubic inch version of the 3 liter or is it a ford block?

Merc used a Chevy 2.5L engine they called the 120, looks identical to the 3.0L engine.
Ford made the 2.3L and only OMC used it.

Sorry for the delayed response, we've been on vacation. The engine I was referring to was the one from early 60's novas. I did'nt realize other engines were also called " iron duke". Thanks.
