Re: Why a water separator?
I have a 30 year old water separator on a boat. You can get a water separator filter that looks just like the on on your boat, just dosen't have the drain on the bottom. I have used them in place of my factory installed external fuel filter, had it fill with water, removed , emptied , reinstalled it and went on our way.
I see most here don't have the problem with water in fuel as I have. The boats I run are always or almost always in the water and fueled up at marinas. I check separators after every trip. I have seen first hand what can happen in a crouded inlet or entering a marina and have engine failure due to water filled separators. Do what makes you comfortable. Happy and safe boating is a never ending learning expierence.
