Re: Why am I doing this?

Bill;

We have beat this to death, and I certainly repsect your opinions and knowledge of boats.

As for trimming the bow up or down, you can still use the motor trim since the Smart Tabs do change the effectiveness of the trim. But, enough of this.

I like people with conviction and commitment. You are commited and experienced with helm controlled tabs, and I have no problem with that as I have used them for years on my larger boat, and would not be without them.

I hope that someday you have the opportunity to ride in a smaller boat with our Smart Tabs. It would be nice to get your feed back -- realy!

Regards;

John

Im really looking forward to trying the smart tabs on my Bass boat. As allready stated I have them installed, but they are tied up and I havnt tried them. Maybe this week end. I wouldnt want electric adjusting tabs on my boat and do not see any reason I would want them. My boat really dosnt lean or run one side or the other up or down due to weight differences, it runs pretty flat no matter what, being a Bass Boat I do not see really rough water conditions were I boat. I can however see that there may be some instances with some boats that might require the electric adjusting tabs. To each his own on this subject. I like the idea that they work without having to think about them. We will see.

I have been told that the smart tabs are not good if you have to back up your boat alot, the tabs in the full down will catch water and pull the boat down?

Re: Why am I doing this?

Hooty: Im aware, I have a kill switch, and wear it, I have a 100MPH Life jacket, and wear it, no dual steering or hot foot. I very much understand where you are coming from, and wouldnt think of going any faster without them, but Ive always set the dual steering and hotfoot at the 70+ level. Its not a bad thing at 65, but Im sure it will be ok, everything is in good shape. Thanks for careing. This isnt new to me either, been messing with 70 MPH Bass Boats for a long time. I set them up for other people, sometimes two or three a year.

Re: Why am I doing this?

Radsrh;

If someone who has used Smart Tabs has given this information, then they have installed the tabs with too much initial deployment angle. OR the person has read an article on the internet discussing the use of Smart Tabs on a TWIN ENGINE JET BOAT. We do not recommend this installation for two reasons:
1) Jet boats are notorious for not being able to back up.
2) The Twin Engine Jet boat do not allow the Smart Tabs to be placed far enough away from the pump output. For jet boats to back up the jet stream is diverted forward via a gate. On the Twin engine jets when the gate is dropped down in front of the pump, it diverts the water onto the plates.

For normal prop driven boats and single engine jet boats the tabs are only deployed at about
2 1/2" down at the trailing edge. Given that the boats reverse speed is limited by both the boat design and the throttle (to about 2.5 to 3.o MPH), the control in reverse is not effected.

At first glance it seems like a possibility but in actuality it is not a problem.

Good Question - Thanks!
