trying to learn more about my 85 force. Took off head to see cylinder and saw damage to cylinder wall. Bought manuel and started reading and said dont think so!! Found a guy that seems ok by talking to others and he said the damage is caused by the jet getting clogged on carburater and the piston dont get any lube and its just metal on metal. And thats why the boat wont idle because its to much of a drag on the motor. But at wot its not bad because the high rpm's keep it going. Is this true?? I hope so because he is giving me a rebuilt and doing the R&R for 2,000 and my motor. Good deal or not?? Thanx for your input!!!!!!!

You did not mention which Cyl went out...and how the piston and Cyl look. This is crucial when trying to find out what happend to an engine.

TMD

The piston sides had scatches on it and the the middle cylinder had scratches and 3 bad gouges in it.

Sounds like a ring broke.

Generally from poor grade oil...or carbon build up. Both are related.

TMD
