Thanks to all for opinions about the out of state discount issue. I'm leaning towards it. They have a new/ discontiued 130 2 stroke Yam I'm looking at for the 18' Sea Hunt CC, 6k. Has this motor had any serious probs? I am going 2 st. and carbs because I believe this is my best shot at keeping this motor for 15 years with minimum repairs. Feel free to comment on this ,too.

Docja
I can only assume it was so they could concentrate on their 4-stroke engines. Member Forktail will have the info you need!

I'm not aware that Yamaha has "discontinued" the 130 HP 2-stroke.

Your dealer probably meant that it was last year's model. That's good for you, because this outboard hasn't changed, so it's really not outdated. In fact it has been around for many years and has a great reputation and solid performance. No inherent problems that I know of.

6K is a good price. But I'm surprised you've decided that the two stroke with carbs will live longer than a 4-stroke? Piston failure is one of the primary causes of any 2-stroke outboard failure and powerhead replacement. 2-strokes are way more susceptible to this happening over a 15 year period than a 4-stroke. Plus the 4-strokes have a pressurized lubrication system and fuel injection. Better warranty too.

I think that boat is rated max for a 150 hp. Personally I'd spend a couple grand more and get a fuel injected Suzuki DF140, or opt for the sweatheart fuel injected Yamaha F115. ;)
