Re: why did you name your dog what you named him/her?

We've had several dogs over the years.
Golden Retriever - Dexter
Yellow Lab - Shasta
Hound mix - Wrinkles

We now have a strange pair living in the house. Our bloodhound is called JW (for Junior Wrinkles), but whe should have called him Duhhh, and a beagle that we call Cheyenne. JW, or Dubs for short, is just about the most mild tempered animal I've ever seen. Wouldn't hurt a fly. The beagle on the other hand is a completely different story. That damn dog runs roughshod over the poor bloody! I'm positive the beagle is a cat hiding in a dog's body. She does what she wants, when she wants and to hell with anybody else.

The bloodhound is a sweety, but never, repeat, NEVER let him lay his head on your lap...well..unless you actually LIKE having dog goo all over you. We're constantly cleaning dog slob off the walls, counters, furniture and yes, even the ceiling..*sigh*. Nothing quite like turning on the beautiful 62 inch flatscreen television only to see dog slime all over it ..*sigh*. Still...even with all that, he's been a great dog. I'll miss him when he's gone....maybe! ...lol

No dogs here but this is my new little buddy Swiffer, he gets into every little crack and crevice and when he comes out hes covered in dust bunnies and cobwebs. He does a great job of house cleaning.

We have Cookie. Admrial, jr. christened her thus because she looked like a peanut butter cookie as a pup. She's a Lhasa Apso and stubborn as the day is long. She loves Gracie. If I say "wanna get Gracie?" she hops up and goes crazy and makes a beeline for the truck. Here's an action shot of the two of them last fall.

My dog, a female Akita, is named Bear. She has a Bear face

Cats, Buffy the calico, named after Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The reason is, right after we got her the palmetto bugs, flying cocroaches, came in the house, everyone she got close enough to died shortly thereafter, hence, Buffy the cockroach slayer.
Peanut, the Orange Tabby, just because she was so small when we got her.

I've got 2 Bichon Frises. The first one was from a litter born to a dog belonging to a friend of my oldest daughter. That dog was named
Steiff, after the famous brand of german stuffed animals. I have suggested that Steiff would also be more useful if stuffed. Steiff's partner is named Casper. We ended up with him after the lady who bought him turned out to be allergic to him. The names fit because they are both fuzzy little white dogs.

Named one "Scupper"....Don't know why. Guess it sounded better than "Bilge Pump"!

A few years back we had a mutt show up on the side porch. We took him in & named him "Muttley." :) My son gave us his beagle before he shipped out. I can understand why he named him "Sonic." He just won't stop that "darn" howling!

Our first dog was a golden retriever and came with his name "Casey". Second was also a golden named "CJ". Someone with a handle like Jeepman shouldn't have to explain that one. Now we have the admiral's pick, a little Llasa Apso named "Dyson", primarily because if something is on the floor, he'll pick it up. My buddy already had a dog named "Hoover".

Have a Golden Retriever that we picked up (as a pup) on October 31st. That's Halloween, but also the day that Martin Luther pinned the 95 thesis to the door in Wittenberg. We were talking about names that might go along with that, and Grace was one we considered. The puppy needed to go potty on the way home, so we pulled over to let her go. Set her down on the grass and she tried to run a little. Back end didn't communicate well with the front end, and she wound up tumbling tail over nose. That sealed the name Grace.

Plus we can use the line, "say goodnight Gracie." :D

Had the best pound puppy a guy could ask for. An Aussie Shepard mix of some sort, I believe. Got her when I moved away to North Carolina to to to college. She was the size of my flip-flop when I got her. I was fortunate enough to have had her in my life for 11 wonderful years, but she died of doggie cancer a couple years ago. Not sure I can go through that again with another/new doggie :/ Her name was Ruca. She was named after a song by a band called Sublime entitled "Waiting for my Ruca". I miss her every day. She was my boat buddy too.

Both of ours were rescues, Budd(jack russel/beagle mix) ironicaly fits him. Sadie(rodesian ridgeback/boxer mix) just works. I guess the lousy parents of these dogs at least had some good qualities. They named them right. That about ended their goodness though.

Isnt that the truth. Sadie would have most certainly been put down for her agressiveness had we not taken her. Now 6 years later she actually has hair and lets kids touch her food when she is eating. We thought for a long time her hair would never grow back, and that we would have to lock her away whenever anybody came to the house. She is a big baby now. BUT dont try to come in my house without an invite. I promise you will leave blood. Not our doing, but it works with as much as I travel and my wife and daughter are here alone.
