I actually like some of the arragance. It provides some good entertainment and like was mentioned above, it would be boring if everyone agreed. I think there is a difference in being arragant with out the ability to accept when you are wrong. I admit I am arragant at times but will be the first to concede when I am wrong. Sometimes in your situation, in your corner of the world, what is normal comes off as arragant in a typed forum. Then sometimes what you consider as arragant is just someone being correct. The funny thing is in business I know arragant people and arragant people that will admit when they are wrong and move on. I can thing of a few of those first people who have been stuck in their carreers for years wondering what went wrong. I started off years ago out of a prestigious college as arragant yet quite often correct and quickly realized what works in your college bubble doesn't fly in the real world. I don't know that I consider the internet quite as the real world.
At least you didn't misspell prestigious.:D

I am curious. Does telling someone their opinion is "Hogwash" an example of arrogance?

Ouch! Southern translation for ?hogwash? is ?I tend to disagree? It is in the Redneck dictionary.

Depending on where you live in the world or even the U.S. the word "hogwash" can mean anything from "nonsense" to well, calling you an outright liar. Thats the problem with the written word sometimes, it can be taken out of context.

As far as saying whether or not that word is arrogant depends on its assumed intent.

I am sure you see my point then. Its fine to discuss and even be adamant about a point of view without really being arrogant.

I love arrogant when it is done correctly.

Anyone here ever see what happens when you try to tell 45auto that he is wrong!! Get ready for a beatdown complete with charts, statistics and spreadsheets. I guess that's the type of arrogant where someone knows they are right and wants to be sure you know it too.

(no disrespect to 45, I love when someone gets you going)

Yes I do, and thank you for bringing that to my attention!

Wow ^^^^^ nice research/memory there Bruce!!

bigdee,

I think I found the thread that has your dander up (I'm L.A. born and raised and have no idea which dictionary has the use of dander that I intended  :D ) Assuming I have it right (Honda Pilot) I would say that is tpyical. I'm with you on data, and I am also with those that see a short and rare tow as different than what for me is a 280 mile drag with lots of hills. With that said, safety is an issue that always seems to brign out the strongest opinions in otherwise technical threads. There are the NEVERs and the SOMETIMEs in most of those . . .

I agree with everyone that this is a pretty mild and well behaved forum (that is the nature of most technical people)...but there will always be a few that display improper communication skills. I have had the pleasure of working with some very intelligent professionals in the technical and engineering world and I have found that the most successful ones are the least likely to argue and criticize. A good engineer will listen. He/she may have to filter the information but even the dull, ignorant and arrogant have their story and if you sift through enough horse manure you just might find a horse!
