why go to the trouble to title my new outboard in tx

i just bought a small outboard online out of state from a dealer. I didn't initially get all the signed paperwork needed to title it. of course i'm itching to get it in the water and except for maybe the possibility of getting it stolen(which i'm not scared of) i can't see the purpose in getting a title for it. Am i missing something??? At texaspwd they said i wouldn't recieve a card for the motor to carry with me, so how does a game warden know or care if it's titled or not.

It is illegal to sell an outboard without title in Texas, and should it be stolen only a title can be used to ID it.

Agreed, title it in Tejas so you'll have an official record of ownership.

Hi, I'm new to the iboats forum... I saw your thread and have something to toss out into the mix. If this is not the proper place for this, please point me in the right direction. I appreciate your help and consideration in this matter.

My brother's motor was stolen from in front of his house (in Michigan)... right off his boat, sometime the night of 7/28/10.

What we're looking for is a 2004 15 HP Johson-Bombardier outboard, built in Canada. Model #: J15RLSOC, Serial #: 07052575, it's all white in color and looks/runs like it's new. This information was related to Bombardier, but I though getting it out on a users/manufacturers forum might be a good idea too.

If anyone happens to hear about someone with such a recent acquisition, or if you see it please let me know where it is. Thanks
