I recently aquired a sea raider with a sport jet 120. Does anybody know why this motor would be capitating?

A few reasons why you sport jet might be cavitating are either your impeller
is pitted/chipped or you have a seal that is leaking air or a bearing is loose
causing vibration.

Re: Why is my sport jet capitating?

Before installation of the jet and motor I ordered all the necessary gaskets and the grommet. After installation I hooked it up to the hose and ran it some. It was cold out so I could see some exhaust coming out in front of the jet (in front of the grate). I don't know if that would cause cavitation. When the motor is running the jet does make a "clanging" noise, but my jet ski makes that noise too. This is my first time working on a jet. I downloaded a manual, but it does'nt go into troubleshooting. Sorry for the lack of info.
