Why is the Evenrude/Johnson forum soooo busy compared to the merc forum?

lol....like the question says...since i own both merc and evenrude and had to use both forums, i have real trouble getting anyone over at the merc forum to answer anything. Most folks over there get very few reponses and when we do get a response...it seems its a longer wait? Just curious as to why this fenom is? Are mercs that more dependable or are there less mercs than Johnson/evinrude?

I think it might be because more Evinrude and Johnson motors are sold. When i was young, i only remember seeing a couple boats with a Mercury motor. :)

Yep, simply more Johnson and Evinrudes out there than there are Mercurys and Mariners. They've been in business longer and more folks are keeping older Johnrudes running than older Mercs.

I always loved my mercs 9.8. a thunderbolt 4 cyl 50hp and a 4 cyl merc 50 Classic (45hp) but my hobby is now strictly E&J from the 50s and 60 s
for me working on Mercs was more complex and frustrating

then a buddy gave his dad's QD which always ran poorly.... apparently

I found cracked coils under the flywheel as I did with a 25$ FD , a pristine $50 9.5 hp Sportwin 9623a etc...etc... all motors work fine now

For me and my limited (none) engine tear down skills E&J are easyer to fix with good books like "Cheap Outboards" and all the help I got here and AOMCI :)

Naaa....they just break more than a Black motor. 80% of questions are 80's up motor problems.

Most of the Merc guys use a different website. It's pretty much a hi-perf website, but has tons of Merc guys on it. That website has almost zero Johnson/Evinrude comments. Guess it all evens out.
