Why Is There Water Shooting Out Of Resv

1977 mercruiser 470 new rebuilt. just put in the water and a hose blew while under plane. replace hose and then when out for another test drive and then the radiator cap was whistling like a locomotive and overheated. all hoses swelled up and look like the wanted to pop. any ideas i think its head gasket.

Water pump (in drive) not working, no cooling water going to heat exchanger is one distinct possiblity

Wate Pump In Drive Workinh Fine. When I Rev Engine Antifreeze Shoots Out Of Cap

It may be a head gasket, common on the 470's.
What was the temp gauge reading?
You can remove the cap from the heat exchanger (make sure you can see the antifreeze level) the do a leakdown test on each cylinder. If you see bubbles in the coolant, then you have found the leaking cylinder. But it will not tell you if it's the head, cylinder, or just the head gasket is bad.
