I hope for our children's sake that you stick to science. Your sense of fairness, equality and the real meaning of racism is warped and scary. What really bothers me is that you believe that racism is a "huge problem" in America. Frankly, I have traveled the world and we live in the least racist society on the planet bar none. I don't care if you are talking about the UK, France, Australia, Mexico, Malaysia, China, Japan, you name it, they are absolutely more overtly racist. (BTW, I did not call any individual in any of those countries a racist)

Now, is that to say that there are not racist Americans? No, there are true racists just as there are true rapists. Both are "really bad people that do really bad stuff" and they should be dealt with.

With that said, I agree that this is a meaningless discussion without the test to review. I doubt, however, that it will reveal anything but a net result of standards being lowered. Lowering standards exacerbate and extend the issues that created the test score gaps in the first place, it does not fix it . . .

CJY, most of us have to live in the real world where we live by certain rules and guidelines. Through this entire thread I have tried to keep an open mind but you apparently don't know what it's like outside of a tenured, academic area where people have to acheive results not only to get a head but also just to keep their jobs. It would be nice if we could all just rewrite our job descriptions so if we weren't doing well in an area we could change it. Unfortunately my boss, not to mention our board of directors, won't let me do that. You are an example as far as I can see why so many kids are graduating not only without the education needed to succeed but also with the attitude that they are owed something.

A lot of it begins at the family unit. Many school policies and academic structures are politically tailored to achieve number results. Not diciplined achievement skills. That would be politically incorrect.Perhaps the ones falling way short of the curriculum standards should have been held back instead of catered to like mommy and daddy were suppose to do.It's a sad scenario that has been somehow shoved down the throats of teachers and school administrators by politicians at every level seeking support.Learning begins with attitude.

Wow Ken I bet that you didn’t think that this subject would get this heavy did you?
If it keeps it up it might make it to the new passing score. Some where starting to get out of line but none of the mods stepped in and they calmed themselves down. Really suprised me.
