Wire nuts have NO place on a boat, not even on AC circuts

and this one is exposed and below the waterline even!!!!! OMG surely my boat will bust into flames at any moment!

lol

A fried of mine recomended crossing them inside of the boat, but I was unsure which wires to cross.
I was just going to use electrical tape!
JK, was thinking coating the 2 twisted wires in silicon if i did it outside the hull.

Your problem is probably nothing more than loose pivot bolts in the bellhousing. They are what turns the limit switch, if they weren't tightened, then they will move and the adjustment will change.

Just can stan it no more! A reminder: If you bypass the trim limit switch and hold the switch in the up position for just 1 second too long you can trash your universal joints, and possibly your upper unit. My conscious is now clear:D.

Not going to happen.
You start trimming up to far and your prop will start cavitating, the rpms will go up and the speed will go down. Very obvious, and long before any damage.
Volvo doesn't even have trim limit switches (Except on DP's to prevent cavitation burn on the props) and probably 90% of the Mercruiser drives out there in use don't have workable ones.
it's not a big deal to know when you are above trim range, and if you are wanting to go above it for shallow water, then it has nothing to do with it anyway.

And I think merc says you can safely run the motor to 1200 rpms with the drive in any position... correct me if im wrong.

Finally the problem was that the hinge pin was not tight. The bolt wanted about one more turn.So i am sure that the next time i will not have the same problem.

Where is the bolt to tighten the hinge pin?

That fixed my trim guage!!!! I took the sensor off tonight and sure enough the pin was loose. Now my trim gauge works again. Awesome.

Now for the limit switch....

i had to take off the drive and so i had the opportunity to change correctly both the limit and level sensor of the power trim including the wires.

Finally the problem was that the hinge pin was not tight. The bolt wanted about one more turn.

So the only question now is:

How many remaining bolts (besides the hinge bolt) did you fail to tighten correctly when you had the drive off? :)

And consider that i did not only put off the drive.....
I totally repower my boat myself.Everything came out and have been chang:confused::cool::)ed!!!!
I hope the only bolt i had not tight enough was that!!

Re: Why my trim limit sensor needs again and again adjustment?

I thought i solved the problem afterI tighted the hinge pin of the limit sensor but it seems that i did not. After 2 hours of operation, both the limit sensor and the position sender lost their adjustment. The result is that the up button does not function and the trim gauge indicates absolutely wrong drive position. I do not understand what goes wrong after i put the boat into the sea! The sensors are totally new (mercruiser parts) and have been changed with the wires...i mean i did not connect the old with new wires! Everything is new (even totaly new the trim pump with the solenoids) and they do not work properly. The smartcraft trim gauge is also calibrated concerning the position (0=full down, 10= up position, 25=trailler position)
Do you have guys any ideas what i must check?
Thank you very much.

I'd start by checking those hinge pins again, maybe they worked themselves loose? I doubt that would happen but it seems like a good place to start! Also check to be sure the screws that hold the sensors are tight enough to keep it from spinning.

The bellhousing bolts are supposed to be glued into place with some red loctite. So even if torqued to spec, if you didn't loctite them, they very well could have started to back out.

The problem must be the fact i did not put any locktite before i tighted the hing pins. And as i now reading at the installation manual, it sais that i must put Locquic Primer T at the pins before to tighen them so to secure....
Now, the problem is that the boat is into the water and i can not make this job......
I will do it at September when i will winterize the boat. Thank you very much....
