$$$$$...thats all that needs to be said. for the people that are in the market for a new boat or engine, this may be the route for them, but many people dont want to spend nearly 7,000 dollars on only a 50 h.p engine. Not to mention when you get up into the higher h.p numbers as well.

They'll start showing up.

I've heard no issues with them. An e-tec is in my near future.

yep. merc owns a slew of boat companies, as does yammyhahahahahaha, so the more boats they build, the more boats have their motors on the back.

the majority of people who get etecs are repowering an older boat.

The only problems that I have heard from the mecanics down here on e-tecs, is that if the motor get any sort of water in the engine you have to replace all the electronics ... not sure how true that is or if anyone has had this problems ....

They're starting to show up here too. BRP was very smart with their marketing. They know by keeping the Evinrude name they inherited the good rep as well as the bad. They are not going let the public become the testing ground as some companies have done / are doing. They are in no hurry to "flood" the market with any engine. They are taking it slow and precise and that's the way it should be.

Have there been any etec questions on the boards? I don't remember seeing a single one.

I don't think that you are going to see much in the way of trouble because they are all covered by 3-6 years warranties from date of purchase. I have read about a few problems, but BPR has jumped right in and replaced or repaired the engines. If it has been an engine failure, they are taking the engines back to their tech site for testing to see what happened and why. That is also good marketing on their part and good way to find out early if there is a major problem like the ones that Opti-Bombs had.
I would love to be able to jump in and replace my old 89 Merc 200 hp w/something like this, but the $$$$$'s are just too many. Lot of price swings from dealer to dealer. I was told anywhere from $18K to 25K for a 250 hp installed.

I worked for bombardier about 12yrs ago, building trains. If they build there outboards like there trains, it should be a very good outboard.
The first 10 trains on the project i was working on....they tore them apart at least 5 times. Bombardier spared no expense to get them right.

Why no ETechs-? They have been very slow to ramp up production because their dealer network has never fully recovered from the bankruptcy. Couple that with transom availabilty, price and new tech fear...It's just a slow process to become a player in an industry that is dominated by Mercury and Yamaha.
