It's a safety issue. As long as all the fuel line and fittings are tightly secured and the pump is not delivering too much pressure (regulator required or adjustable pump), there should be no problem. However, should the engine stall for any reason and you do have a fuel leak, the pump would continue to run and potentially feed a fire. On cars and I/O's the pump is wired through the oil pressure switch. Therefore if the engine stalls for any reason, oil pressure drops and the fuel pump is cut off. There simply is no easy way to include such a feature on a carbed two stroke.
