why not electric fuel pump?

Any reason not to put in an inline electric fuel pump to push gas to the engine? Seems like it'd be a bit more reliable than the bulb.

It's been done...but I have used bulbs for a long long time and never had one fail. I do replace 'em every 3 years or so.

Seems like a bad idea to me.

If you have a electrical / battery problem .

You can still start motor , but not without fuel to the carbs.

I too change mine every couple years, as they tend to start looking a little rough.

ie: cracks , get soft , etc.

It's a safety issue. As long as all the fuel line and fittings are tightly secured and the pump is not delivering too much pressure (regulator required or adjustable pump), there should be no problem. However, should the engine stall for any reason and you do have a fuel leak, the pump would continue to run and potentially feed a fire. On cars and I/O's the pump is wired through the oil pressure switch. Therefore if the engine stalls for any reason, oil pressure drops and the fuel pump is cut off. There simply is no easy way to include such a feature on a carbed two stroke.

Also you don't need constant fuel pressure at the bulb. It is only there to prime the actual fuel pump on the motor.

You can use one as a primer, no big deal. The V8's came with one.
